Concord Gardens is an organization dedicated to promoting healthy living in our community. Our second garden will open in the Spring of 2010, on Allman Road in Concord, MI. Plots will be for rent during the growing season, available to residents of the Concord Community School District for a small fee. Scholarships also available.
Community gardens benefit the entire community by promoting intergenerational learning and community building opportunities. They beautify neighborhoods. They provide opportunities for healthy living through good food and exercise. Our gardens in Concord hope to promote the arts and historical aspects of our town as well. Financially, community gardens are shown to raise home values and reduce crime. Finally, community gardens, provide service opportunities and Concord Gardens will be sharing a portion of our harvest with neighbors and friends.
Rules and Regulations
Gardeners are responsible for cultivating and maintaining their own garden plots. Harvest only your assigned plot, and do not plant plot beyond the measurement given.
Please keep your space clean. No debris of any kind should be left at the site. Take your trash with you, and use the compost pile to dispose of weeds and plant materials. Keep rocks out of the pathways and borders for ease of mowing.
Crops must be harvested once they are mature. Donate extras to friends and neighbors, or contact Friends of Concord Gardens for local needs. Keep your plot free of weeds. Make sure you plant at least 3 rows by June 15, or your plot may be forfeited.
All plots are inspected throughout the season—those that do not meet guidelines will be notified. Failure to respond within 14 days will result in forfeiture of the plot.
Individual fencing of plots is allowed—please keep structures within your boundaries. Fencing must be removed at the end of the season along with dead plants, stakes and weeds.
Unattended watering is not permitted—please conserve the use of water, mulch with leaves, grass clippings, hay or mulch to reduce water evaporation.
Gardeners must agree they will not plant any illegal plant materials. Gardeners may not smoke, or use (or be under the influence of) alcohol or illegal drugs.
More Garden Requirements
CG does allow the use of fertilizers, weed killers, pesticides and herbicides, but hope that all organic products and methods would be prioritized.
Pets are not allowed at the garden.
Family members are welcome—please supervise young children.
Please be respectful of all community property and gardens, returning any borrowed items after use.
The compost pile should only be used for compost, manure and wood chips. No trash or diseased plants please.
Garden is open from dawn—dusk seven days a week.
Please park only in designated areas.
Disrespectful or abusive language or destructive behavior can result in immediate loss of garden privileges.
Members must agree to the policies and practices of the garden, recognizing that they are at the discretion of Concord Gardens.

Volunteers are welcome. If you would like to help in any way—events, fundraising, food distribution to neighbors and friends, education, garden leadership, classes, donation of gardening tools, work days, maintenance of garden and more—please contact us!
